WELS Affiliation
WELS stands for Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. WELS is a group of nearly 400,000 men, women, and children in nearly 1,300 congregations across the United States and Canada united by a common faith in Christ's saving love. We are committed to a common calling—encouraging each other in our faith and sharing God's gift of a Savior with the rest of the world.
Wisconsin - our church body was founded in Milwaukee, WI in 1850.
Evangelical – a word from the Greek language that means gospel centered and gospel focused.
Lutheran – drawing on the teachings of Martin Luther who God used in the 16th century to reform the church and preserve his truth.
Synod – another word from the Greek language that means “walk together”. The 1,300 congregations of our synod walk together in worldwide ministry spreading the gospel, training the next generation of pastors and teachers and producing Biblically sound books and publications.
More WELS information can be found on their website.
